About this experience
Souq Al-Alawi is one of the oldest and longest market streets in Historic Jeddah, running through the heart of Al-Balad from near Beit Nassif toward Bab Makkah. Coral-stone houses with wooden rawasheen lean over the lane, while the shops below spill out with incense, spices, herbs, prayer beads, textiles and souvenirs. Pilgrims have bought gifts here for centuries, and the street still hums in the evening when the air cools and the lanterns come on. Side alleys lead to historic mosques, old cafés and traditional bakeries.
