About this experience
Rijal Almaa is a fortified village of sixty stone-and-slate towers stacked into the mountainside, on the old caravan route between the highlands and the Red Sea coast. It is a UNESCO-recognised site and one of the best-preserved settlements in Arabia. The guided visit covers the defensive layout, the quartz stones set into the facades to catch the light, and the museum inside one of the restored towers — where the painted al-qatt interiors survive. Roughly two hours including the museum. The village is built on a slope with a lot of steps, so it is not step-free.
