About this experience
Al-Balad is the old heart of Jeddah and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014. Its lanes are lined with tall coral-stone houses wrapped in carved wooden rawasheen balconies, a style that grew with the port's trade and the pilgrims who passed through on their way to Makkah. Wandering here means ducking between souqs, small squares, historic mosques and restored merchant homes, with traditional bakeries and old cafés along the way.
