About this experience
Al-Wajh's old town is a compact grid of coral-block merchant houses above the harbour, built when this was a supply port for pilgrims crossing from Egypt and a base during the Arab Revolt. Most of it is still unrestored, which is the appeal — carved doors, shuttered upper floors and the al-Bedaywi mosque minaret rising over the roofline, all of it quiet. The walk covers the harbour front, the merchant quarter and the mosque, with a stop for coffee. Roughly ninety minutes on uneven ground; flat shoes strongly advised.
