About this experience
Al-Shafi'i Mosque is regarded as the oldest mosque in Historic Jeddah, tucked into the lanes of Souq Al-Jami' near Souq Al-Alawi. Tradition links its foundation to the early Islamic era, and its slender minaret is thought to be around 800 years old, while much of the prayer hall reflects later Ottoman-era rebuilding. A careful restoration completed in 2015 revived its crenellated white walls, arched arcades and open central courtyard. It remains an active neighbourhood mosque and a peaceful stop on any walk through Al-Balad.
