About this experience
Just outside the old Madinah Gate on Al-Madinah Road, the Jaffali Mosque is one of the neighbourhood mosques Abdel-Wahed El-Wakil designed for Jeddah in the 1980s. Completed around 1987, its bright white walls are topped by a row of shallow domes resting on octagonal drums, with a single tiered minaret rising beside them. The simple massing and arched windows draw on Hijazi and Cairene traditions, giving the building a calm, sculptural presence. It holds about 2,500 worshippers, and its location makes it an easy stop on the way to or from the historic district. Photo credits: Zohair Harb (CC BY 3.0) via Wikimedia Commons.
